Abstract

This report aims to present Mid Holocene dating from rock shelters of people who lived by hunting, gathering, and fishing (hunter-gatherers), thereby challenging the Archaic Gap hypothesis. This hypothesis predicted a depopulation of the Brazilian Central Plateau (in the center of South America) due to climatic changes in the period. We therefore present the obtained chronologies using AMS, 14C, and OSL dating methods from Serra Negra, Central Brazilian Plateau, Brazil.
