The correlation between fingerprints and the ability of a person is important in that it makes possible the discovery of the talents of an individual. Talents that may not even be known to the subject. In the medical community, it has already been established that there is an association between the dermal ridge arrangements and the mind. Schizophrenia is an example to this point. In this condition the single transverse palmar crease is displayed in different variations of the cases. So here we find a connection between the mental and the physical plain. In addition, much of the development of the brain takes place simultaneously with the dermatoglyphic development. Fingerprints cannot tell us if someone is good or bad. Behavior is left up to the individual. Malcolm X was our best example. He transformed from clever criminal to charismatic leader; “a true sinner who purified himself through a religious conversion”. Before during and after his transformation, his fingerprints of cause did not change.

However, as already stated, the friction ridge formation can reveal the potential or ability of the individual. This is because intelligence is manifested in our genetic code. And fingerprints are one of the many resulting elements of this code. We must also understand that no race or ethnicity is superior to another. All of us have the same anterior lobe, (Dr. Cheikh Anta Diop and his interpretation of the Monogenetic Theory). As such, all human beings have the same intellectual history. I have selected individuals who were mentally elevated to see if there is a departure in the frequency of patterns from the general population. And we have an eminent find! We shall take a look at three individuals. They are:

1. Walter Elias “Walt” Disney (1901-1966)
2. Malcolm X (1925-1965)
3. Martin Luther King, Jr. (1929-1968)

The tremendous talent and imagination of Walt Disney was a valuable gift for all mankind. He was indeed above and beyond the average thinker. And he did however possess a very rare fingerprint pattern. Walt Disney displayed a Central Pocket Loop Type Whorl pattern with a meeting tracing on his right forefinger. Under the NCIC FPC it is classified as CM. In 1993 the FBI conducted a study on the frequency of fingerprint patterns which included 17,951,192 males. Among those studied only 32,999 displayed the classification of CM on the right forefinger. This study would place Disney’s frequency for this classification of the pattern to be 0.18% (Figures 1 & 2).

History tells us that Malcolm X encompassed an elevated mental manifestation. In juxtaposition, the frequency of his fingerprint patterns and dermal ridge configurations were apart from the expected display of the average individual. This is a significant event in dermatoglyphics, a unique phenomenon! If we were to discover a similar pattern frequency and/or ridge structure upon the hands of another individual, we could say that the person in question maintains a potential for astuteness, as did Malcolm X. The fingerprint patterns that we possess are a result of our genetic make-up, this is because fingerprints are a byproduct of the human evolutionary cycle. In reference to the evolution of fingerprint patterns, the ulnar loop resides midway between the whorl (the first pattern to appear on the person of individuals) and the arch (that which was last). The right thumb impression of Malcolm was a horizontal radial loop with a ridge count of fourteen.

Malcolm X had a horizontal radial loop on the right thumb with ridge count of fourteen (NCIC FPC = 64). Only 5,065 of 17,951,192 individuals from the male population displayed this frequency on the right thumb which is 0.0282153965040316% of the total.

In other words, the ridges enter and exit in the direction of the radius bone. Two variables which influence the display of a given pattern are gender and racial stock. However, considering the above and all other known variables, radial loops have failed to provide a display on the aforementioned digit (for the male population) at frequencies higher than 0.438 percent (Figure 3).

The radial loop is a minority pattern in so much as the definition can be understood. Its counterpart, the ulnar loop, maintains the highest frequency among all other patterns. Further, the discovery of a horizontal radial 1oop upon the person of another individual has been infrequently noted in my thirty-five years of study. Most loop patterns are diagonal in appearance. It is noteworthy however to mention that the February 1983 issue of the FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin displayed a horizontal loop pattern on the back cover. It was described as interesting and unusual (Figure 4).

Most individuals display patterns that are consistent with the patterns of the neighboring digits. However, Malcolm displayed variety in the distribution of his fingerprints. Notwithstanding, the right ring finger of Malcolm displayed a central pocket loop type whorl pattern with an outer tracing. The frequency for this pattern to appear on the right ring finger is 7.51 percent. And it was the only whorl pattern in the tenset. Under the original rules for classifying fingerprints according to the Henry System of Fingerprint Classification and Filing, we would conclude that Malcolm had three plain arch patterns which were displayed on the right index, right middle and the left thumb. However, under revised rules for classification, the right middle finger impression is classified as a tented arch pattern (technical). A technical tented arch is a pattern that has two of the three requirements necessary to be considered a loop pattern.

This pattern (#3) had a delta and a core but did not display a recurving ridge in front of the delta. I have not seen a study to include the frequency of technical tented arches on the right middle finger. However, when considering all tented arches the frequency on the right middle is 3.33 percent. Frequency of the Tented Arch Pattern on the right middle finger for the male population:

The break down on the combination of fingerprint patterns for Malcolm X was the following:

1. Four Ulnar Loop patterns (# 5, 8, 9 and10) Two Plain Arch patterns (# 2 & 6)
2. One Tented Arch pattern (# 3) Two Radial Loop patterns (# 1 & 7)
3. One Central Pocket Loop Type Whorl pattern (#4) (Figure 5 & Table 1).
4. Excluding digit # 1, a decimal number is added to the assigned number and each number is multiplied by the next to reach the NCIC FPC filing number!

The right little finger print of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is arbitrarily given the classification of a tented arch: (Figure 6).

In 1993 the FBI conducted a study on the frequency of fingerprint patterns. In that study 17,951,192 individuals were included from the male population. The tented arch pattern appeared on the right little finger of 114,881 individuals. It can therefore be noted that Dr. King’s display of the tented arch pattern on the right little finger is 0.6399630732042752369870479910192%. This is an unusual phenomenon in the study of dermatoglyphics:

Amazingly, the loop formation on the left approaches vertical and is radial in appearance while the formation on the right is diagonal and ulnar! The fact that a radial loop formation is on the right little finger is a clear departure from the expected frequency of the dermal ridge arrangements (Figure 7).

Dr. MLK, Jr.’s right little fingerprint having a frequency of 0.639% is a frequency that is less than 1%. One percent is the first whole unit in the populous direction. Anything less than one percent is on the other side of the spectrum. A person as such may be able to see things in a different light (Table 2 & 3).
