In vibration/noise control engineering, mutual effects of vibration and sound are of considerable importance for accurate and realistic design of cavity systems composed of solids and fluids. The integrated Finite Element Method/Boundary Element Method (FEM/BEM) approach is a convenient vibro-acoustic tool for coupling of the two media. This study implements a FEM/BEM model for a box-like cavity under structural and acoustical excitations. The prominent coupled response characteristics of the model subjected to harmonic, periodic, almost periodic and random forces are examined with engineering aspects. The effects of random forcing and harmonic forcing are compared with regard to both vibration and sound responses. This comparison is extended to response analysis of the system to structural and acousticalforces.
