In this very useful and insightful new book on the abortion catastrophe, twelve professional women review the impact of abortion in 138 pages of text (with the remaining pages containing notes). The book should be mandatory reading in every high school, college and university, and in any social academic group interested in "women's issues?' The moral rationalizations which "justified" slavery, genocide, and other historic debacles are analyzed thoroughly. Page after page contains information usually suppressed by the American press, the medical schools, and the quacks who run the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Anyone who has not read this book remains uninformed about the things which abortion has done to all of us.
No one knows more about abortion's effects on us than Ms. Germaine Greer. The conclusions of her book The Whole Woman (1999) are confirmed in The Cost of Choice. Ms. Greer wrote:
What women "won" was the right to undergo invasive procedures in order to terminate unwanted pregnancies, unwanted not just by them but by their parents, their sexual partners, the governments who would not support mothers, the employers who would not employ mothers, the landlords who would not accept tenants with children, the schools who would not accept students with children...If the child is unwanted, whether by her or her partner or parents, it will be her duty to undergo an invasive procedure and an emotional trauma and so sort the situation out. The crowning insult is that this ordeal is represented to her as some kind of a privilege. Her sad and onerous duty is garbed in the rhetoric of a civil right. Where other people decide that a woman's baby should not be born she will be pressured to carry out her duty to herself, to the fetus, to other people, to the health establishment, to the state by undergoing abortion. Her autonomy is the least important consideration. In both cases she is confronted by people who know better than she what she ought to do.
Women have been defeminized, debilitated, destroyed, defamed, degraded and enslaved by "legal" abortion. Abortion is not and never has been a "civil right." It has served no one but those who have refused to help the women faced with difficult or unplanned pregnancy. The Cost of Choice proves that fact. After reading it, one would like to see the seven irresponsible justices who concocted Roe v: Wade hanged annually in effigy, or even more appropriately, shot by a firing squad composed of women.
