Some "blacks" want reparations for slavery as if their current problems are due to what happened to ancestors over 100 years ago, as if "my color made me do it."
Reparations are a transparent scam worthy of the kingfish and only supported by those eager to get a handout or who are so latently racist they do not have the courage to speak up against this travesty.
The current problems "the black" community has, cannot be related to what happened to their ancestors over 100 years ago. The real cause of so-called "black" problems is the demise of traditional family life caused by a welfare system which has ruined parenthood and independence. To claim "slavery did it" over 100 years after the fact is the biggest admission of inferiority one can imagine. Reparations are an unjust payoff for what blacks never suffered today imposed on people who never owned any slaves.
This is victimhood run amuck. Victimhood gives a sense of entitlement such that one can "get away with something" ranging from one's own prejudice is murder. Victimhood accentuates color and inflames racism by focusing on what is supposed to be ignored. Victimhood prevents peace because it requires a "gotta have an enemy" mentality.
Inflated claims that blacks deserve reparations because "we built this country" are so blatantly racist and arrogant while ignoring all others who have suffered and really built this country. Indeed, all the problems blacks have caused may make them more costly than their contributions?
Reparations can only be as a pathetic handout confirming inferiority or ignorance. Reparations are a shakedown, a bribe, blackmail and extortion which will never end because it solidifies inferiority and "poor us," i.e., one has to live: "We need and deserve this reparation." And why now? How about those born in the next ten years. Or fifty years? Or, what the hell - the next 100 years? When will it end? Should it never end?
American blacks, as everyone, should be thankful they are here, however they got here, in spite of the faults of this country. As Keith B. Richburg wrote in Out of America, A Black Man Confronts Africa, "Thank God my ancestor got out because, now I am not one of them. In short, thank God that I am an American." The author stated this after three years of living in many parts of Africa as a Washington Post correspondent. His ancestors may have been slaves, but he knows that Americans should be thankful for being here, however they got here, whatever the color. He knows he ought to pay to stay, as we all should provided we stand for Americanism at its best.
If reparations are to be forthcoming, then those calculations should deduct the cost and interest accrued for the Civil War, welfare and poverty programs, and the education and benefits received which were unlikely to have been obtained had they remained in Africa.
Finally, reparations entail the demonic verbicide of "black" giving it a new meaning: black is a means to an end rather than a race or a color. And it achieves that "end" by admitting "never ending inferiority," and "the inability to assume responsibility for one's self."
The Negro community cannot be helped by "poor us victimhood racism contradictory to and destructive of self improvement." If American blacks want the good life for themselves, they must support law and order and the transcendentals, regardless of color, because that is the only way the good life is obtained for anyone.
If any money is forthcoming, the blacks should graciously turn the money over to families who lost relatives fighting for the Union in the Civil War.
Anyone who cannot get beyond their color is a racist!
P.S. Actually, more than any other group, the Catholic Church has more right to
compensation and reparations than any group in this country. The Church should have reparations for all the schools, colleges, universities, hospitals and public service buildings and accomplishments to its credit.
