Abstract

This study also explores the development of an innovative herbal tooth sponge for children’s dental hygiene, formulated from readily available kitchen ingredients such as clove (Syzygiumaromaticum), neem (Azadirachtaindica), and mint ( Menthapiperita). The soft, porous sponge delivers mechanical cleaning and antimicrobial action while being safe, palatable, and eco-friendly. A complete protocol for formulation, sensory testing, and antimicrobial evaluation is provided, alongside discussion of safety, acceptability, and stability. The approach addresses the challenge of promoting oral health in young children while avoiding fluoride overexposure and harsh abrasives. This innovative approach aims to promote good oral hygiene in children while avoiding the risks of fluoride overexposure and harsh abrasives. Traditionally Clove has a long history of use in both traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine. It’s often used for pain relief, especially for toothaches and gum discomfort, and for promoting digestion. It’s also used to relieve coughs and sore throats. Mint is widely used in traditional medicine for digestive issues like gas, bloating, and indigestion. It is also used to soothe respiratory ailments and is a common remedy for headaches and nausea. Where neem is a key herb in Ayurveda. Almost every part of the tree is used for its medicinal properties. Traditionally, it is used as a general antiseptic for skin diseases, boils, ulcers, and infected burns. Neem twigs are used as natural toothbrushes to prevent periodontal disease, and its leaves are used to treat skin conditions like acne, eczema, and psoriasis.
